Leave The Honey Alone!- The Story of Samson

NB: Sponsored Post: By Richard Okunade of Live By The Word

The scriptures say Samson was born as a Nazarite. There are some who make themselves Nazarite, but in his own case, God predestined him to be. It is a sacred and exalted position. Nazarite is likened to a Priest, and as Priest, they are ordained to administer sacrifices. They must remain clean and sanctified.

The position comes with the responsibility to themselves and others. Some of the things they must not do are; drinking, touching the dead, among other things.

Unlike many people, Samson was able to know the purpose of God for his life early in life. As a matter of fact, God specifically told his parents before his birth. Information which must have been passed to him by his parents. He was very privileged to have discovered his divine assignment at such tender age. Because many died without knowing the purpose of God for their lives. Likewise,  many got to know at their twilight years.

Samson was born at the time God delivered the Nation of Israel into the hands of  Philistine. They were being punished for their disobedience. In other words, they are in bondage. As a result, Samson was born as a deliverer.
The birth of Samson was a birth of hope. Hope that they would be delivered one day. The hope of a Nation apparently on the shoulder of one man. What a great responsibility and privilege.

Judges 13:5 (NKJV)  For behold, you shall conceive and bear a son. And no razor shall come upon his head, for the child shall be a Nazirite to God from the womb; and he shall begin to deliver Israel out of the hand of the Philistines.”

Christians are also Nazarite. Bible called us a royal priesthood (1 Pet 2:9)  We are kings and priest. As Priest, we also have instructions on what to do and not to do. As Priest, we are to avoid things that may defile us-including dead things. Dead represents defilement. Defilement to anything called godliness. Like Samson, we are also deliverers. We are to deliver the World and our generation from the oppression of the enemy called Satan. We are to deliver people from the shackles of sin. The whole World is waiting for our manifestations.

Romans 8:19-21 (NKJV)  For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God.
For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope;
because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.

Before salvation, we were dead in trespasses and sins (Eph 2:1). And every element of death is admonished to be put off and put away. Likewise, we are asked to put on new nature and character. To remain as Priest that nature must be sustained through the Holy Spirit, Grace and conscious effort.

PUT OFF: Ephesians 4:22 (NKJV)  that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts,

PUT AWAY: Ephesians 4:25 (NKJV)  Therefore, putting away lying, “Let each one of you speak truth with his neighbour,” for we are members of one another.

PUT ON: Ephesians 4:24 (NKJV)  and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.

Going back to the story of Samson. One day, the lion appeared to Samson on his way to finding a wife. The Bible says the Spirit of God suddenly came upon him to give him the ability to kill the lion. Truly and truly he killed the lion. The job was done! The lion is dead.

Surprisingly on his way back from the journey, he decided to check on the dead lion. What a big mistake! Lo, and behold, he found HONEY in the carcass of the lion!
How did the honey get to the carcass?  Was it a miracle or temptation?  What some people considered a miracle may actually be a temptation at times. The Honey was as a bait in disguise that lured him into touching the dead, thereby made him violate the instructions of God.

I like to submit that Samson already messed up his spiritual position even before defiling himself with Delilah.  He knew about this hence his pretense not to tell his parents after touching the dead lion.

All these little, little, foxes, are combinations of what led to his failure. His destiny was truncated eventually. Here is someone born to be celebrated who ended up becoming an object of mockery.  That will not be our portion in Jesus name.

What has God helped you to conquer?  Was is it drunkenness,  fornication, adultery, anger, malice, unforgiveness, hatred, relationships, e.t.c. Whatever the grace of God has helped you conquer, don’t go back to it. Relationship and friendship God has helped you to stop don’t go back to it. Don’t go near it. You are not supposed to touch it again. Don’t go back to your old flames. Are you a married man or woman, stop calling your Exes, stop having secret meetings with them. Though it may have honey, it may be a trap to soil your garment of righteousness.  Your destiny is much more precious than that!

Stay blessed.
